Where has 2018 gone?! I know we say this every year, but truly I feel like it was January yesterday.
My life has been a hectic blur the last few months, what with work, university, scary decisions, the single life and
partying making memories with friends. And… along the way I kind of forgot about the most important thing. Me.
Unfortunately, I ended up hitting another bump in the road with my physical (and mental) health, so my focus has really had to shift this month to taking care of myself and putting my needs first. I am the lucky bugger who managed to get mono in all its glory two years in a row. Didn’t think that was possible? Yeah, me neither.
If you’re struggling, you need to make self-care your number one priority. The self-care posts that tell you to eat chocolate and have a bubble bath are all well and good, but do what needs to be done first.
Strip it back to the basics.
Self-care to me includes saying no to or rescheduling plans if I’m feeling sick, sleeping more to give my body rest, cutting back on work when I can, ranting to a friend, and actually attending my doctor’s appointments…
You do you sis, but get it done and try to be gentle with yourself in the process. Don’t fight your feelings, they are all valid.
Know that you’re the most important person in your life and you deserve to be treated as such. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.
I’m definitely not where I want to be yet, but I’m on my way.
